eBay Merchants Shaking Up The Brick And Mortar World
Written by Evan SchumanJanuary 3rd, 2007
Online auction behemoth eBay is having an unexpectedly strong impact on brick and mortars, with piles of retailers set up just to provide physical purchase and pickup points for eBay merchandise. One such merchant–iSold It LLC, with about 200 locations–manages about 50,000 different auctions per month.
An interesting story in CIOInsight reports on the software challenges as the merchant tries to links directly to various eBay sites for pricing and listing information. It’s trying to deal with this by using a community of roughly 40,000 ISVs, all of whom are using eBay’s own APIs.
Cards issued by European banks when used online cross border don't usually support AVS checks. So, when a European card is used with a billing address that's in the US, an ecom merchant wouldn't necessarily know that the shipping zip code doesn't match the billing code.
