Has Amazon Decided It Doesn’t Want To Be In Retail?

Has Amazon decided what it wants to be when it grows up? More to the point, are there indications that it has now decided that one thing it does not want to be is yet another thin-margined retailer?
One tech blogger is arguing that Amazon wants to get as far away from retailing as possible by examining its hiring choices surrounding Kindle and Amazon’s Web Services. Interesting reading.
Cards issued by European banks when used online cross border don't usually support AVS checks. So, when a European card is used with a billing address that's in the US, an ecom merchant wouldn't necessarily know that the shipping zip code doesn't match the billing code.
