An E-mail Domain Hints At Job Insecurity
Written by Evan SchumanMarch 13th, 2009
A minor observation. Over the last couple of weeks, have noticed a depressing trend. Many new subscribers from very large chains are subscribing with personal addresses (gmail.com, hotmail.com, etc.). Even worse, many of these are existing subscribers who are logging in to change their addresses to personal domains. Are these recently laid off folk? Or are they merely getting worried that they soon will be and are trying to make sure that they won’t get cut off from the world if that happens.
It used to be that these domains would pop up very infrequently, mostly for execs who wanted to read newsletters at home on the weekend. Another sign of an economy in deep doo-doo: A surge in generic consumer domains among business people. *sigh*
Cards issued by European banks when used online cross border don't usually support AVS checks. So, when a European card is used with a billing address that's in the US, an ecom merchant wouldn't necessarily know that the shipping zip code doesn't match the billing code.
