Debitman Changes Name To Tempo Payments

Transaction processor Debitman officially changed its name this week to Tempo Payments, in part to support non-debit transactions but also to get away from a name that the CEO dubbed “fairly polarizing.”
What were the objections to the six-year-old name? “One was that it sounded like a superhero, which in some sense was the intention,” said CEO Mike Grossman, adding that it showed his company “struggling against the evils of interchange” but was also viewed in some circles as not serious. The other concern? Some apparently found the name sexist as “a lot of the cardholders are women.”
The core reason, though, was to signal to customers that the company wasn’t limited to handling debit networks, Grossman said.
